ICSA beef chairman: Mr. Seán Scully, Stradbally, Laois  (087) 9498618

Sean Scully

Sean Scully

Seán farms near Stradbally, Co Laois. As well as being Laois Co Chairman, he is married to Margaret, and they have three children, Lisa, Emma and John. Seán is farming a medium enterprise, weanling to beef and finishing about 100 cattle a year. Seán also grows malt and barley.

“I would like to achieve a better standard of living for those in the drystock sector, so that farmers with a medium or larger enterprise would not have to subsidise their income by working off the farm. I feel that the beef sector and sheep sector has been undersold for the last 15 – 20 years. As a western European island, geographically we have a lot sell about ourselves and it is vital that we attract more youth back into agriculture within the next 5 years or Ireland will face a battle to retain agricultural numbers in the rural communities.”
